Cappella Romana Stanford Residency – This Weekend

This weekend:

The Northwest-based vocal ensemble Cappella Romana offers two quite distinct programs and experiences in two venues. At Bing Concert Hall, in collaboration with faculty in Art & Art History and the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA), Cappella Romana performs Byzantine Chant and contemporary works amid acoustics electronically enhanced to simulate the lush resonances of the ancient Hagia Sophia cathedral in Istanbul, Turkey. Then, amid the natural acoustics of Memorial Church, the ensemble features music composed for 8th and 9th-century celebrations of Holy Week in Jerusalem’s Church of the Holy Sepulcher.
