But even if you are unable to attend in person, you can help make this recording a reality by making a gift, and selecting “A Ukrainian Wedding Recording” as the reason for the gift.

This Music Is For You!

Ukrainian American ethnomusicologist, folklorist, and singer Nadia Tarnawsky leads the women of Cappella Romana in village folk songs, sacred chants, and choral works for a Ukrainian wedding. She collected many of these songs in field work in Ukraine before the war.

A traditional Ukrainian wedding transpires over several days, comprised of numerous significant moments of transition. These include the arrival of the matchmakers, the engagement, the making of the wedding bread, the dressing of the bridal couple, the blessings bestowed by the parents, the ritual of marriage, the celebration, and saying farewell to the bride.

Each of these moments is accompanied by the singing of the women of the families and of the community.

Also features Ukrainian singers (refugees from the current war) Inna Kovtun and Hanna Tishchenko.
